Wendy Brooks

Artist

As an abstract painter my work implements observations, made by sketching, of the natural setting of forest trees.  I like to work in oils for the reason of it’s expressive qualities as a purpose of atmospherically capturing the depth and spatial qualities of the woodlands.  The natural setting is observed through centrally standing amongst it and I liberate this experience by using strong colours to describe the light that shines through a mesh of foliage.  Layers of different colour oil glazes are subsequently followed with vigorous brushstrokes, pallet-knifed, illustrating the tangled and ambiguous branches.  Built up layers of glazes and gestural marks completes the overall composition illustrating the relationship between vision and spectator.

I have exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions.
