Anita graduated from the Hampshire School of Drama. She enjoys a wide range of skills which include her award-winning chart-topping singing career and as a dancer and actress in many plays.
Anita is a famous “Grizabella” of CATS (re-directed for her by Trevor Nunn) and she is Master class in Stage Sword craft. Anita worked regularly with the great Scottish Blade-Master Ian McKay on his spectacular fight scenes. Other roles have included Peter in the record-breaking production of Peter Pan (directed by National Theatre’s brilliant Pauline Grant). Anita has performed regularly at The London Palladium and for the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace. Anita Harris – The Act won many awards and her recording of ‘Just Loving You’ went to double gold disc presented to her by Pete Murray on BBC TV’s Saturday Night at the Mill and has sold over two million records worldwide.
Films include, the brilliant comedies Carry On Follow That Camel with American comedian Phil Silvers and Carry On Doctor with Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Frankie Howard, Barbara Windsor and the amazing comedy team.
Anita’s TV appearances with Morecambe and Wise, Harry Secombe, Les Dawson, David Nixon, Tommy Cooper etc are famous, as is her children’s’ TV series Jumbleland which has broadcast worldwide. Her singing and stage successes include the Golden Palm Award at the New York Film and Television Festival. Following the international success of Anita’s BBC Television Special The Vocal Touch she represented the UK at the Montreaux Television Festival and presented a series of BBC TV Ice Specials and filmed her famous One Hour Concert Spectacular which is regularly screened around the world.
Among Anita’s leading roles are Rachel in My Cousin Rachel; Mavis and Vera in Steppin’ Out; a hilarious Miss Hannigan in Annie and Gillian Holroyd in Bell, Book & Candle. Anita played Myra in Deathtrap with Colin Baker; Double, Double with Simon Ward; Verdict with George Sewell; Gertrude Lawrence in G&I and Five Blue Haired Ladies Sitting on a Green Park Bench. TV dramas includes Beatrice Lillie in Remember Jack Buchanan.
Anita is married to the writer and painter Mike Margolis. Both have been awarded Fellowships of the Royal Society of Arts. She is currently preparing for the role of fictional Victorian detective, the unique and spectacular Verity Lake in The casebooks of Verity Lake and has recently finished a tour of The Cemetery Club with Shirley Anne Field and Anne Charleston.
