Angela Gooderson

Artist

Angela was born and raised in Welling, Kent.

After becoming attached to coloured crayons and pencils at a young age, Angela’s artistic ability was encouraged and she continued to progress quickly through primary and secondary school often finding the art lessons slow and boring!

Angela went to North West Kent College in 2002 for a BTEC National Diploma in Fine Art where she learnt to refine her painting skills as well as learning new techniques such as printing and photography.

All the while Angela has been accepting commissions and exhibiting her work in small gallery spaces. In 2006 and 2007 Angela had pieces hung in Hall Place, Bexley for their annual exhibition.

After some years working, Angela decided to study BA Honours in Fine Art at Chichester University in 2008.

Influential artists such as Rembrandt, John Everett Millais and Chuck Close inspired her to adopt a photo-realistic style.

In contrast, the styles of Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, and Jenny Saville taught Angela to become less obsessed with perfection within her art and experiment with a looser approach to working while studying for her degree.

Angela found that working from her own image instead of using models, related to the emotions she was trying to portray in her paintings. Once Angela had begun working from photographs of herself, she found that the painting style accompanied the moods that were influencing each piece with more intensity.

Angela now paints regularly, continuing to adapt and bring new ideas and inspirations to her work. Angela has recently begun drawing fantasy style figures, which have been influencing her painted work also.
